(a) Carson's statement is always true.
For example: (-7.2)/(-2.4)= 3 >0
(-1.6)/(-0.8)= 2 >0

(b) When we divide two negative decimals, we divide the decimals and don't care about the sign, for the sign is always positive.

Hope this helps~

Tatiana [17]

Answer:

Option B, (-9, -5), 3

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>The point slope form in:  y - y1 = m(x - x1)</u>

m is the slope

(x1, y1) is the point

<u>Step 1:  Determine what the slope and point is their equation</u>

y + 5 = 3(x + 9)

3 is the slope

(-9, -5) is the point

use the elimination method to solve the system of equations choose the correct ordered pair 7x+4y=39 2y+4y=14
Anvisha [2.4K]

x = 5 \: and \: y = 1.

Step-by-step explanation:

7x + 4y = 39 \:  -  {eq}^{n} (1)

2x + 4y = 14  \: \:  -  {eq}^{n} (2)

Multiply Equation no (1) with 2 and Equation no (2) with 7.

14 x + 8y = 78.

14x + 28y = 98.

( - ) \: \:  \:  ( - ) \:  \:  \: ( - )

0x +  -20y =  - 20

- 20y =  - 20

y =  \frac{ - 20}{ - 20}

y = 1

Substitute the value of "y" in Equation no (1)

7x + 4y = 39.

7x + 4(1) = 39.

7x + 4 = 39.

7x = 39 - 4

7x = 35.

x =  \frac{35}{7}

x = 5.

Find two numbers, if their sum is −11 and their difference is 41
snow_tiger [21]

The larger one is (-11 + 41)/2 = 15.

The smaller one is (-11 -41)/2 = -26.

_____

For two numbers a and b with sum s and difference d, you can write the equations

a+b=s\\a-b=d

Then adding the equations and dividing that sum by 2, you get

(a+b)+(a-b)=(s)+(d)\\2a=s+d\\a=\dfrac{s+d}{2}

You can subtract the second eqution from the first and get a similar result for the smaller number

(a+b)-(a-b)=(s)-(d)\\2b=s-d\\b=\dfrac{s-d}{2}

These are the formulas we used above.
