The answer is D. redemption. Pip stayed with Magwitch because despite his aversions for the man in the earlier stages, as they got to know each other, they developed a sense of friendship. Staying with Magwitch through the boat ride is symbolic of his redemption to give thanks and gratitude for being his benefactor and also to show what friendship is.
