Explain the relationship between the Cold War and Americans everyday lives. Cite evidence from the text in your response
d1i1m1o1n [39]

The Cold War had a tremendous impact on the everyday lives of Americans. For example, students in public schools during the 1950's often had to practice "Duck and Cover" drills. These drills forced students to cover their head with their hands and to hide underneath desks. One of the reasons students practiced these drills was in case nuclear warfare between the United States and Soviet Union took place.

In the aforementioned scenario, students would be ducking and covering to protect themselves from the effects of a nuclear attack. This type of drill showed the Americans were constantly in fear of what might happen next between the US and the Soviet Union.

Based on what you read about the passage of the voting rights act on page 1 of this learning block, name one event that was part
inysia [295]
One significant event that lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was the March from Selma to Montgomery. The purpose of this peaceful protest was to register black voters in the state of Alabama. However, these peaceful protestors were met with violence from white citizens who did not want to see blacks have a significant voice in the political realm. This outbreak of violence showed that the federal government needed to make a law to help protect African-American voting rights, hence resulting in the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
