The 15th Amendment to the Constitution granted African American men the right to vote by declaring that the "right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." Lenin knew that Russia had a problem of leadership so he decided to seize power. He organized secret meetings with factory workers, peasants, soldiers and sailors and recruited them into a volunteer paramilitary Called the Red Guards. By November 7th and 8th, the Red Guards captured government buildings in a coup d'etat that was bloodless.

The Bolsheviks took over power from the government proclaiming Soviet rule. Russia became the worlds first communist state with Lenin as the leader. Russia's involvement in world war 1 was brought to an end by the new soviet government with the treaty of Brest-Litovsk.
