I believe from a book it said it can't out run the predator and it can blend in with the snow it decides to hide.

Because they usually live in a snowy environment so they can blend in with their surroundings better because most snowshoe hares have a white fur coat so they can blend in with the snow better therefore they prefer to hide instead of trying to outrun their enemies. does that explain it enough.
