In vertebrates, hormone production by the endocrine system is often controlled, either directly or indirectly, by the nervous sy

stem. Two endocrine glands in the brain, the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland, play central roles in integrating the nervous and endocrine systems. The hypothalamus receives input from nerves throughout the body and brain, and initiates a response via the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is made up of the posterior pituitary and anterior pituitary, two separate glands that fuse together during development. Both the posterior pituitary and anterior pituitary release a number of hormones that send signals throughout the body. Some hypothalamic and pituitary hormones, and their abbreviations, are listed below. Hormone Abbreviation thyrotropin-releasing hormone TRH gonadotropin-releasing hormone GnRH antidiuretic hormone ADH thyroid-stimulating hormone (thyrotropin) TSH prolactin PRL follicle-stimulating hormone FSH luteinizing hormone LH Part A - Endocrine glands in the human brain Each of the following phrases describes the structure, function, or regulation of either the hypothalamus, posterior pituitary, or anterior pituitary. Sort the phrases into the appropriate bins depending on whether they describe the hypothalamus, posterior pituitary, or anterior pituitary.

Answer:

If the question was actually pointing these (thyrotropin-releasing hormone TRH gonadotropin-releasing hormone GnRH antidiuretic hormone ADH thyroid-stimulating hormone (thyrotropin) TSH prolactin PRL follicle-stimulating hormone FSH luteinizing hormone LH) as the phrases, then the answer will be

•Thyrotropin-releasing hormone TRH describes ANTERIOR PITUITARY

•Gonadotropin-releasing hormone GnRH describes the HYPOTHALAMUS

•Antidiuretic hormone ADH describes the POSTERIOR PITUITARY

•Thyroid-stimulating hormone (thyrotropin) TSH describes the ANTERIOR PITUITARY

•Prolactin PRL describes the ANTERIOR PITUITARY

•Follicle-stimulating hormone FSH describes the ANTERIOR PITUITARY

•Luteinizing hormone LH describes the ANTERIOR PITUITARY

Explanation:

but if the phrases were to be this

1. Releases oxytocin

2. Synthesizes and releases PRL

3. Synthesizes and releases TSH

4. Synthesizes some hormones that are released into blood vessels bound for another gland

5. Regulated by hormones released into portal blood vessels

6. Is an extension of the Hypothalmus

7. Synthesizes oxytocin and ADH

8. Integrates nervous and endocrine systems

(...as found from another source),

the answers will be

1. Posterior Pituitary

2. Anterior Pituitary

3. Anterior Pituitary

4. Posterior Pituitary

5. Posterior Pituitary

6. Posterior pituitary

7. Posterior pituitary

8. Hypothalamus
