The ordinance cited by Arellano in his article is the one issued by the the L. A. County Board of Supervisors in the year 2008; this county ordinance forbade taco-vending trucks to remained parked in the same spot for longer than one hour; the penalty to be paid for breaking the ordinance was a one-thousand dollar fine plus a six-month imprisonment. The court did not pass this ordinance, and therefore tacos continued tobe sold from trucks.

The fact that some wished to impose this ban on taco trucks shows that there were those who saw it as an invasive aspect related to Mexican migrants in the US, and the fact that it was not passed proves that Mexican food has been accepted by the American society so that it has become a sort of cultural colonization.

Personal narrative is effective for this kind of article because we have first-hand experience by a Mexican person in reltion to Mexican food as it is prepared in the USA, as well as the reference of Mexican food as it is cooked in Mexico. This personal experience complements the facts mentioned in the article. Arellano realizes that just as Mexican cuisine changed with the Spanish Conquest, for example, with the introduction of beef and pork, it is bound to develop new varieties when introduced into a different culture.

Personal narrative is appropriate in any essay in my discipline, which is literature, because it is a genre that expresses point of view in regard toa particular topic.

Finally, Arellano's mention of the frozen margarita machine as an exhibit at the Smitsonian shows to what extent Mexican food, or drink in this case, has made its way into American culture, for the Smithsonian is a museum where other iconic American artifacts, like the Spirit of Saint Louis, are exhibited.
