Kenya's fertility rate has changed dramatically during the las t 20 years, this can be seen as a direct result of a number of factors, including cultural and social changes and public policy strategies. One of those strategies was called The National Family Planning Policy, and it adressed women's reproductive health and a strong campaign favoring the use of contraceptives.

There have been other cultural and social changes that have also impacted the fertility rate; more women go to school and recieve an education now than 20 years ago, they have also started to get married at an older age than before. These shifts have led to a slow change in women's life projects and conception of family and maternity.
