<u>Answers with working:</u>

1.

Cost of a crate of floor tiles = $95.94

The crate has 6 boxes of floor tiles. This means 6 boxes of tiles cost $95.94

Now each box has 20 floor tiles.

So, total tiles in a box are : t=6\times20=120 tiles

Now, cost of 6 boxes = $95.94

So, cost of 1 box (b) = b=\frac{95.94}{6} = $15.99

20 tiles cost $15.99

Hence, 1 tile (t) will cost = \frac{15.99}{20} = $0.799 ≈ $0.80

2.

Brand A contains 8 fluid ounces and  costs $1.28.

Cost of per fluid ounce = \frac{1.28}{8} = $0.16

Brand B contains 12 fluid ounces and costs $1.68.

Cost of per ounce = \frac{1.68}{12} = $0.14

Difference between both the per ounce costs = 0.16-0.14 = $0.02

The coordinates of A, B, and C in the diagram are A(p,4), B(6,1), and C(9,q). Which equation correctly relates p and q?
Temka [501]

ANSWER

p  + q= 7

EXPLANATION

We determine the slope of each line using the slope formula;

m =  \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

The slope of BC is

=  \frac{ q - 1}{9 - 6}

\frac{ q - 1}{3}

The slope of AB is

= \frac{1 - 4}{6 - p}

=  - \frac{3}{6 - p}

The two lines are perpendicular so the product of their slopes is -1.

- \frac{3}{6 - p}   \times \frac{ q - 1}{3}  =  - 1

This implies that,

\frac{q - 1}{6 - p}  =  1

q - 1=6 - p

q + p = 6 + 1

p  + q= 7

Isolate the variable by subtracting 8x from both sides to get -4x = -1. multiply both sides by -1 to get 4x = 1. divide both sides by 4 to get x = 1/4.
