Containment means to contain the communist to not let it spread. In the Korean War it was democracy vs communism the fighting was about the policy of containment. The Korean War was also during the cold war which was to contain communism and one of the proxy wars were the Korean war.

They moved the political system to allow candidates to win based upon vote-buying, coercion, and other corrupt methods. They were therefore effective or ineffective depending on the relationship you had with the machine and also whether or not you wanted to see a democratic system or not.
