Since a very beginning, US only had a tough attitude: the world had to give explanations to the Americans and Vietnam was a country with a very deep principles, one of them was the respect for the older men as a bridge between the real world and his gods, While US despite old men as an "unproductive ones".

Using US forces would go against the idea that the Vietnamese people should be free to pick their own leadership and form of government.

Conflict would cost the United States in lives, money, and moral authority.

Conflict could cause harm to the people of Vietnam.

How did the practice of using enslaved workers support the Southern economy?
Gelneren [198K]
People in the south used slaves because their economy was focussed on things like cash crops (tobacco, cotton, etc.) These crops required a lot of work so farmers and plantation owners could not do it by themselves. So by using enslave persons they could harvest more crops, sell more, make more money, and in return boost the southern economy.
