Let

x-------> the time in hours

y------> the distance in miles

we know that

speed=distance/time-------> speed=y/x-------> equation 1

speed=5.5 miles/hour------> equation 2

equate equation 1 and equation 2

y/x=5.5--------> y=5.5*x---------> this is the equation for the problem

  the distance that Andrew jogs will depend on the time spent

examples

a) if he runs for 2 hours,

then

x=2 hours

y=5.5*2-------> y=11 miles

b) if he runs for 3 hours,

then

x=3 hours

y=5.5*3-------> y=16.5 miles

c) if he runs for 30 minutes

then

30 minutes=0.5 hours

x=0.5 hours

y=5.5*0.5-------> y=2.75 miles

At a used book sale , Ms Margo sees that 4 comic books cost $5. At the rate,how much book can ms Margo but for $15?
Nostrana [21]

Answer:

12 books

Step-by-step explanation:

Since she has $15 and books come in a pack of four for $5, we can divide her money by the cost to see how many she can get ($15/$5) which gets us 3. but we have to remember the books come in a pack of four so we must multiply 3x4=12 books.

1. One week Carlos bought 3 bags of Tabitha Tidbits and 4 bags of Figaro Flakes for $43.00. The next week he bought 3 bags of Ta
d1i1m1o1n [39]
Tabitha Tidbits costs $7 per bag, and Figaro Flakes is $5.50 per bag.
You need to set up a system of equations. Use "x" for Tabitha Tidbits and "y" for Figaro Flakes, and let the total cost of each trip equal c. Using the equation ax+by=c, substitute the cost of each trip in for c, and the number of bags for each food for a and b respectively. The two equations will be:
3x+4y=43
3x+6y=54
Isolate x in the first equation and you will get:
x=(43-4y)/3
Substitute the above equation for x into the other equation:
3*((43-4y)/3)+6y=54
Isolate y in this equation, and you will get 11/2, which is 5.5
So the cost of one bag of Figaro Flakes is $5.50
Now substitute this into the equation where you isolated x:
(43-4(5.5))/3
You will get x=7, so a bag of Tabitha Tidbits is $7

Write an equation with a variable AND solve it. Mario read 72 pages of his book in class and 13 pages per night, n, until he rea

Answer:

  72 +13n = 163

  7 nights

Step-by-step explanation:

At 13 pages per night, Mario will read 13n pages in n nights. That plus the pages already read will total 163:

  equation: 13n +72 = 163

__

To solve this, we can subtract 72, then divide by the coefficient of n.

  13n = 91 . . . . . . subtract 72 from both sides

  n = 7 . . . . . . . . divide both sides by n

Mario read 7 nights.
