This ideal would eventually pave the way to the US revolutionary war.
As an example, it is common to think that the student councils of educational institutions don't have the necessary power of representation in regards to the rules imposed in these schools and how do the entity's authorities enforce them.
Critics of the Articles of Confederation argued that it was far too "weak" in the sense that it didn't give the federal government enough power over the states. This became especially evident after Shays' Rebellion, which proved very difficult to put down.
