History

The social organization enabled it, with states governed and united under the power of abslolut monarchies. The population was clasified in three different "social classes" named the Estates of the Realm.

At the top, but outside of the pyramid, the King and Queen were located, as their power was supossed to be granted by God and the rest of the society were their servants. These were ranked in three groups with different degrees of social power. This supernational origin of the monarchy's power guaranteed the blind obedience of the other sectors, who believed to be under the protection of the royal family.

Right after monarchy, the most powerful group was the clergy (the First Estate) formed by the, the nobles (the Second), and finally peasants and bourgeoisie (the Third).

Landowners from the First and Second Estates rented their fields or small stores/businesses to members of the Third State who worked for a humble living and for the profit of their masters, either church authorities or nobles.

How did Henry Clay propose to admit California to the Union without upsetting the balance between slave states and free states
Hitman42 [59]
On January 29, 1850, the 70-year-old Clay presented a compromise. For eight months members of Congress, led by Clay, Daniel Webster, Senator from Massachusetts, and John C. Calhoun, senator from South Carolina, debated the compromise. With the help of Stephen Douglas, a young Democrat from Illinois, a series of bills that would make up the compromise were ushered through Congress.

According to the compromise, Texas would relinquish the land in dispute but, in compensation, be given 10 million dollars -- money it would use to pay off its debt to Mexico. Also, the territories of New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah would be organized without mention of slavery. (The decision would be made by the territories' inhabitants later, when they applied for statehood.) Regarding Washington, the slave trade would be abolished in the District of Columbia, although slavery would still be permitted. Finally, California would be admitted as a free state. To pacify slave-state politicians, who would have objected to the imbalance created by adding another free state, the Fugitive Slave Act was passed.

Does kipling believe that non-Europeans are grateful for these benefits? Explain.
vesna_86 [32]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Yes, we can say that Kipling believed that non-Europeans were not grateful for the benefits westerners would bring.

We are referring to the famous poem "The White Man's Burden," written by Rudyard Kipling. The poem refers to the War of 1899 between the United States and the Philippines. Kipling supported with his poem the imperialistic ideas of the United States and the annexation of the Philippines. Kipling thought that the American white men had the right and the moral obligation to educate other races. However, he considered that non-white peoples such as the Philippines would not be grateful after the help of American whites.

nikklg [1K]
