Read the excerpt below from the short story "The Body" by Stephen King and answer the question that follows. The most important

things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you are ashamed of, because words diminish them—words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear. Source: King, Stephen. "The Body." Different Seasons. New York: Penguin Group, 1982. Google Books. Web. 16 May 2011. What is the point of view of the passage?
a. third-person objective

Answer:

b. first-person

Explanation:

The character and the narrator are telling the story in the first person. The main character,Gordon Lachance, retells what happened in the past ,but at the same time he makes comments referring to the present. These are reflections he shares with the reader in a dialogical way. In this quotation: "They are the things you are ashamed of, because words diminish them,," we can see the dialogical tone mainly through the use of you. "..But it's more than that, isn't it? ..", in this quotation the use of the question tag also reflects a dialogical tone. "That's the worst, I think. ", here, the use of I think shows the direct voice of the narrator/ character.

Read "No Compromise With Evil Of Slavery".
Daniel [21]

After reading the excerpt from "No Compromise with the Evil of Slavery," we can say that what Garrison means is:

D. If Americans refuse to uphold the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, they might as well burn it.

What is Garrison saying in the excerpt?

 • William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879) was a journalist and abolitionist. In "No Compromise With the Evil of Slavery," he argues that no man should be allowed to make another man his slave. That is the same as stealing a life.
 • In the excerpt we are analyzing here, Garrison says that the Declaration of independence will be worth nothing if slavery is still allowed. When he says they may throw the declaration into "consuming fire," he means the document should be burned if it is not respected.
