Read the excerpt below from the short story "The Body" by Stephen King and answer the question that follows. The most important

things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you are ashamed of, because words diminish them—words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear. Source: King, Stephen. "The Body." Different Seasons. New York: Penguin Group, 1982. Google Books. Web. 16 May 2011. What is the point of view of the passage?
a. third-person objective
b. first-person
c. third-person
d. limited third-person omniscient

Answer:

b. first-person

Explanation:

The character and the narrator are telling the story in the first person. The main character,Gordon Lachance, retells what happened in the past ,but at the same time he makes comments referring to the present. These are reflections he shares with the reader in a dialogical way. In this quotation: "They are the things you are ashamed of, because words diminish them,," we can see the dialogical tone mainly through the use of you. "..But it's more than that, isn't it? ..", in this quotation the use of the question tag also reflects a dialogical tone. "That's the worst, I think. ", here, the use of I think shows the direct voice of the narrator/ character.

mihalych1998 [28]
In spring of 1846, Edgar Allan Poe (1809849) moved from New York City to his country cottage in Fordham where he wrote "The Philosophy of Composition," an essay that promises to recount the method he used to write his famous poem "The Raven" (1845). In the essay Poe challenges those who suggest that writing is a mysterious process prompted solely by the imagination. Although the it offers a number of precepts for good writing, at the end of the essay, Poe undercuts his step-by-step instructions by insisting that all writing should have an "under-current" of meaning. Because he never demonstrates how to create that "under-current," Poe's essay never completely reveals the process that makes his work so powerful.

Describe what made the terrain around Nome perilous? How did this contribute to the heroism of the dog teams?

This question is incomplete. Here's the complete question.

Based on the 1925 serum run to Nome

Describe what made the terrain around Nome perilous? How did this contribute to the heroism of the dog teams?

Answer:

Located in the Alaskan tundra, the route to Nome crossed a 5000-foot mountain peak and the unstable ice of Norton Sound, ill-famed for breaking under pressure. Furthermore, the sea was frozen for seven months during the winter, meaning that dog sleds were the only way of transportation at the time. In addition to that, the “Great Race of Mercy” happened in the middle of a great storm.

Explanation:

All of these elements made the five days journey to get the serum required to save Nome (which should have taken a month) that much more heroic.
