The scores on the paper the character is holding shows that he is smart, but he's about to walk off of the edge because he's wasn't watching where he was going, this implies that he is not making a smart choice by staring at his paper and walking without paying any attention to where he is going. So it's ironic because it shows that he's smart making a not so smart choice.
