People consider René Descartes as the "<em>Father of Modern Philosophy</em>", being a major figure in a movement known as rationalism, a method to understand the world using reason to reach knowledge.

Descartes invented analytical geometry;  linking geometry and algebra, and creating a argument joining math with physics, by minimizing the world to mathematical representation.

Therefore, the answer is: "<em>He stated that nature and philosophy could both be understood using mathematics"</em>
