prohojiy [21]

Answer:

Context clues are hints to the meaning of an unfamiliar word (literally hidden in plain sight) in a paragraph, essay, articles, or passage. Context clues helps to tell the meaning of unfamiliar words or words having more than one meaning attached.

In English language, there are mainly four (4) types of context clue and these are;

1. Definition clues: definitions or explanations about a word is literally stated for the reader. Thus, meaning are found directly using dashes or commas.

2. Contrast clues: gives hint about the meaning of a word by stating its opposite or antonyms meaning by using words or phrases like however, but, unlike etc.

3. Inference clues: specific clues or hints are not given. To determine the meaning of a word, readers would have to use their knowledge or intuition to decipher the meaning of words.
