What are the differences between an MD and a DO?
An MD or a doctor of medicine practices a form of medicine called allopathic medicine which means treating the disease entity using medicine (drugs) and surgery. A DO or a doctor of osteopathic medicine on the other hand practices osteopathic medicine which aims to treat the patient as a whole, including the patient's environment and patient's nutrition. They often use osteopathic rehabilitative measures for relief of musculoskeletal pain.

What might be the patient's concerns after discovering this?
More often than not, the patient may question the degree of DO as a qualification or a license to treat medicine as an MD is very commonly seen by patients after their doctor's name. The patient may also relate the degree of DO to orthopedics as because of the similarity of the names.

How would you handle the situation?
First of all, if the patient is distressed about knowing that I am a DO instead of an MD; I will first calm the patient down. Then explain to the patient that a DO is fully capable of practicing medicine and even surgery and reassure that there is nothing to worry about. Lastly, I will educate the patient about the similarities and differences between a DO and an MD.

Keith_Richards [23]

Answer:

Francine: Mike, I am unhappy with your constant delay and I don't want you as an employee if you continue to act that way.

Mike: Are you threatening me?

Francine: I am not making any threats, I am stating that you are an irresponsible employee and I have already given you many chances to arrive at the correct time.

Mike: Too many chances? What chances have you never told me? In fact, I am not an irresponsible employee, you are a terrible manager, who besides embarrassing me by calling me incopetent in front of everyone, never asked me what was the reason for my delay in assessing my situation. I have done my job, regardless of the time I arrive.

Francine: You have been doing dirty and disgusting work and I am not interested in the reasons for your delay, I am only interested in you leaving my store immediately and never coming back here.

Mike: My dear, kicking me out of the store is a favor you do me. I don't want to work with someone so rotten and rude.

Explanation:

As you can see above, the dialogue was written with the two characters being aggressive. Both could have taken another approach to deal with Mike's delay problem.

This other approach would be to establish a private conversation between Mike and Francine, where Francine would ask the reason for the delay and calmly explain to Mike the harm that this delay is providing to the store, in addition to looking together with Mike for ways to minimize this problem. Mike, for his part, should listen to Francine calmly and ask for advice to resolve his delays.
