Energy from the sun is the primary source of energy on the earth. The energy from the sun reaches the earth through radiation. Solar radiation occurs over a wide range of wavelengths and frequencies. The region of electromagnetic energy distinguished by wavelengths and frequencies is called electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum in order of increasing wavelengths include the following: gamma ray, X ray, ultraviolet ray, visible light, infra red ray, microwave and radio wave.
