United States President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered a speech on December 8, 1941, one day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, addressing to the American government, in which he declared that even though the United States was trying to establish a Diplomatic negotiation with Japan, it was useless to continue in through that path, and that as Commander in Chief he asked the Congress to declare the state of war against Japan.

In this excerpt, FDR's intention was to persuade the audience to fight until victorious even if going to war could take time and endanger the lives of the American people, he made it clear he had no doubt that the victory would be for the American people and not for the Japanese. The United States then entered to World War II.
