Read the excerpt from "The Tell-Tale Heart.” Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wr

onged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture—a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees—very gradually—I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever. Read the excerpt from "The Black Cat.” Beneath the pressure of torments such as these, the feeble remnant of the good within me succumbed. Evil thoughts became my sole intimates—the darkest and most evil of thoughts. The moodiness of my usual temper increased to hatred of all things and of all mankind; while, from the sudden, frequent, and ungovernable outbursts of a fury to which I now blindly abandoned myself, my uncomplaining wife, alas! was the most usual and the most patient of sufferers. By revealing the narrator’s deepest thoughts, the author increases the element of horror in the narratives. reveals that these characters lack human emotion. provides an upbeat moment and comic relief. relies on a reliable narrator to tell the tale.

Answer:

Explanation:

When I became a musician back in the 1920s everything was good. Jazz came along and it was very easy to learn. Now these times no one knows how to do it because they didn't learn from the originals. Now everything is about hip hop and rap but I still have a place in my heart for jazz.

What tone does the first sentence of the story create with its use of a specific date, time, and place?
GuDViN [60]
If I'm reading this correctly, I'm guessing it would be the setting of the story. The setting is where the scene starts, like what you picture in your head when reading a book, or like a movie, the things around, such as the time, ex. 2:46 PM, in a Bookstore on the 12th of August on a Monday. That's setting.

How should the subject-verb agreement in this sentence be changed, if at all? Both the ranger and the camper sees the bear.
Musya8 [376]

The sentence should be changed as there is no subject-verb agreement. The correct form of the verb should be in plural instead of singular. So the correct sentence is “Both the ranger and the camper see the bear.”

Even though both subject nouns are singular (ranger and camper), the rule of compound subject applies here.  In this case singular nouns are united by the preposition “and” to make a plural subject. Therefore, the verb should be in the plural (see) to have subject-verb agreement.
