Answer:

apt means appropriate or suitable in circumstances.

Explanation:

b or c. I guess it's the only one that works well with this definition and you also have to look at context clues.  "My mistress was, as I have said, a kind and tender-hearted woman"  but with the second half it says " In entering upon the duties of a slaveholder, she did not seem to perceive that I sustained to her the relation of a mere chattel and that for her to treat me as a human being was not only wrong but dangerously so. Slavery proved as injurious to her as it did to me."

So, I'm guessing b or c but leaning more towards b.

lines 85-90: analyze the irony in these lines. how does this moment in the story demonstrate dramatic irony?
Marina CMI [18]

Answer:

These lines present dramatic irony because they show information that the public is aware of, but the characters are not.

Explanation:

The question above is about "Story of an Hour" where while we, as readers, know that the main character's husband is not dead, she doesn't know. However, when she finds out that her husband is alive, she passes out and has a heart attack that leads to her death. However, this heart attack is not caused by happiness but by the terror of knowing that her husband is alive.

This situation where the reader knows information, but the character does not, is an example of dramatic irony.

Which is the present tense verb in this sentence?    If I teach you French, you will see that I learned a lot when I lived in Pa
TiliK225 [7]
The present-tense verb in the sentence is "teach."
The reason for this is, while "will see," "learned," and "lived" are all verbs as well, "will see" is future-tense; as the word "will" implies that it hasn't happened yet and has yet to happen, while "learned" and "lived" are past-tense, as the "-ed" implies that it already has happened--as the speaker of the sentence has already lived in Paris (and perhaps does not any longer) and learned French while they lived there. "Teach" is implying that it is going to happen at this instance, as there is no "will" in front of it to imply future-tense, and no "-ed" at the end to imply past-tense.
I hope this helped !!

Westkost [7]

Read the passage from "the seven voyages of sindbad the sailor.” [the porter] followed the servant into a vast room, where a great company was seated round a table covered with all sorts of delicacies. in the place of honor sat a tall, grave man, whose long white beard gave him a venerable air. behind his chair stood a crowd of attendants eager to minister to his wants. this was the famous sindbad himself. the porter, more than ever alarmed at the sight of so much magnificence, tremblingly saluted the noble company. sindbad, making a sign to him to approach, caused him to be seated at his right hand, and himself heaped choice morsels upon his plate, and poured out for him a draught of excellent wine, and presently, when the banquet drew to a close, spoke to him familiarly, asking his name and occupation. how do the underlined words and phrases in the passage create meaning?

A. They explain the porter's anxiety at meeting a well-known man.

B. They set up a threatening conflict between sindbad and the porter.

C. They describe the layout of the dining hall and the porter's location in it.

D. They demonstrate sindbad's respectability and his generosity toward the porter.

The passage demonstrate Sindbad's respectability and his generosity toward the porter.

Answer: Option D.

Explanation:

‘The Seven Voyages of Sindbad the Sailor’ is an adventurous novel which describes the adventures of Sindbad on his say to seven voyage. From the above mentioned passage, we get to know how respectable and generous Sinbad is. His generosity can be seen from the instance when he invited the porter to sit beside him and served him a glass of wine while having a casual conversation with the porter. He thus, is truly a wise man with a noble company.
