Answer:

13 pencils.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the pens and y be the pencils

Given:

Brian purchased pens for 75 cents each and pencils for 40 cents each he bought total of 22 writing utensils for $11.95.

Total pens and pencils is 22

So, x+y=22----------------(1)

And he bought all utensils for $11.95. and each pen for 75 cents and pencils for 40 cents.

0.75x+0.40y=11.95------------(2)

solve equation 1 and equation 2 for x and y.

From equation 1.

x+y=22

y=22-x----------------(3)

put y value in equation 2.

0.75x+0.4(22-x)=11.95

0.75x+0.4\times 22-0.4x=11.95

0.75x+8.8-0.4x=11.95

0.75x-0.4x=11.95-8.8

0.35x=3.15

x=\frac{3.15}{0.35}

x=9

Now substitute x value in equation 3.

y=22-9

y=13

So, he buy 13 pencils.

The perimeter of a rectangular construction site is 124 meters. The width is eight meters more than 5 times the length. Find the
tresset_1 [31]

Answer:

The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of both lengths and both widths, which is equal to 54 meters. Let's call Length L and Width W.

The question is saying this: L = 3 meters + 3(W). We have 2 variables, which means we need at least 2 equations to solve. So far we have one, our second equation is from the perimeter.

2 lengths + 2 Widths = 54. Now, it's just a plug and chug.

2(3 + 3W) + 2W = 54.

6 + 6W + 2W = 54

8W = 48

W=6

L = 3 + 3(6) = 21

To double check: 2(21) + 2(6) = 42 + 12 = 54

The Width is 6 meters, and the Length is 21 meters.

Find the pattern in the Fibonacci sequence and identify the next two terms.
klasskru [66]

For the Fibonacci sequence you add the two previous numbers. You always start with 0, 1 and you add 0 and 1 which makes 1 then 1 + 1 makes two and so on. The next number in the sequence would be 34 + 55, meaning 89, and after that would be 55 + 89, or 144.
