Answer:

13 pencils.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the pens and y be the pencils

Given:

Brian purchased pens for 75 cents each and pencils for 40 cents each he bought total of 22 writing utensils for $11.95.

Total pens and pencils is 22

So, x+y=22----------------(1)

And he bought all utensils for $11.95. and each pen for 75 cents and pencils for 40 cents.

0.75x+0.40y=11.95------------(2)

solve equation 1 and equation 2 for x and y.

From equation 1.

x+y=22

y=22-x----------------(3)

put y value in equation 2.

0.75x+0.4(22-x)=11.95

0.75x+0.4\times 22-0.4x=11.95

0.75x+8.8-0.4x=11.95

0.75x-0.4x=11.95-8.8

0.35x=3.15

x=\frac{3.15}{0.35}

x=9

Now substitute x value in equation 3.

y=22-9

y=13

So, he buy 13 pencils.

exam is worth 145 points 50 questions. some are 2 points and some are 5. how many question are 5 and how many are 2
Firdavs [7]
Let x = number of questions worth 2 and y be  those worth 5.

so we have the system:-

x + y = 50
2x + 5y = 145

multiply first equation by -2:-

-2x - 2y = -100

Add this to the second equation:-

3y = 145-100

3y = 45
y = 15

and x = 50-15 = 35

Answer:-  there are 35 questions worth 2 points and 15 worth 5 points.

8 1/4 divied by d = 2/11 what is d
Luda [366]

Answer:

d = 363/8

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's write this as a fraction:

   8 1/4          2

------------- = -------

      d            11

One way in which this could be approached would be to interchange 'd' and '2:'

   8 1/4          d                   33             d

------------- = -------      or    -------- =  ---------

      2            11                   4(2)          11

Multiplying both sides by 11 isolates d:

33(11)                     363

-------- = d, or d = ----------

   8                           8
