<span>let the side of base =x and height=h

hx^2=16,823 so x=\sqrt{\frac{16,823}{h}}

surface area of the box = S(x)= x</span>²<span> +4xh

to find the minimum we calculate the first derivative
S'(x) = 2x + 4h
this is minimum for S'(x) =0

2x + 4h = 0 replace x by its value..
</span>2\sqrt{\frac{16,823}{h}}+4h=0<span>
4h=-2\sqrt{ \frac{16,823}{h} } square both sides

16h^2=4\frac{16,823}{h} cross multiply

h^3=4\frac{16,823}{16}<span>

so </span>h=\sqrt[3]{\frac{16,823}{4}} =16.14 \text{ cm} </span>

The perimeter of a rectangle is 46 in and the diagonal is 17 in. Find the area of the rectangle.
OlgaM077 [116]
P=2*(L+l)=46
L+l=46:2
L+l=23
(L+l)^2=529
(L^2+l^2)+2l*L=529

D= V L^2+l^2= 17
L^2+l^2=289

so 289+2l*L=529
     2l*L=529-289=240
l*L=240:2

The coordinates of point T are (0,4). the midpoint of ST is (7,-5). find the coordinates of point S
Nonamiya [84]

The formula of a midpoint:

M_{ST}\left(\dfrac{x_S+x_T}{2},\ \dfrac{y_S+y_T}{2}\right)

We have:

T(0,\ 4)\to x_T+0,\ y_T=4\\M(7,\ -5)\to x_M=7,\ y_M=-5

Substitute:

\dfrac{x_S+0}{2}=7\qquad|\cdot2\\\\x_S=14\\\\\dfrac{y_S+4}{2}=-5\qquad|\cdot2\\\\y_S+4=-10\qquad|-4\\\\y_S=-14

<h3>Answer: S(14, -14).</h3>
