Question 13 (1 point)

The correct answer is A. Heliocentric theory

Explanation:

Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer, mainly known for his observations that led Galilei to conclude planets revolve around the Sun (Heliocentric theory) instead of the sun and other planets revolving around the Earth (Geogcentrict theory). One of the observations that make Galilei drew this conclusion were telescopic observation of Venus, in this Galieli noticed similar to the moon Venus had different "phases" or changed its size and lighting, which was only possible if the sun was in the center of the solar system and planets revolve around it including the Earth. Thus, that Galileo was Venus changing size proved the Heliocentric theory.

Which conclusion about oceanic languages is best supported by the data in the table
andrey2020 [161]

All Oceanic languages belong to the same language family, the Austronesian language family.

Explanation:

The Oceanic languages are languages that are dispersed all over Oceania, occupying one of the largest linguistic areas in the world. Despite occupying such vast area, there are only around 2 million speakers of these languages, as the native populations on the islands in Oceania are not large in general. There are over 450 Oceanic languages, and they are part of the Austronesian language family, and tracing their origin in the Proto-Oceanic language.

The three regions where these languages are spoken are Melanesia, Polynesia, and Micronesia. It is no wonder that the people from these three regions have languages from the same family, as they all share common ancestors, so as they were diverging, the language was just developing in a slightly different way, but still keeping the basics. These languages can be grouped into:

  • Admiralties and Yapese
  • St. Matthias
  • Western Oceanic
  • Temotu
  • Central Eastern Oceanic

The largest individual language by people that speak them are:

  • Eastern Fijian
  • Samoan
  • Kiribati
  • Tongan
  • Tahitian
  • Maori

Galileo was the first scientist to use the telescope to study the nighttime sky. Among his discoveries were the phases of Venus
Bumek [7]

Answer and Explanation:

At the time when Galileo lived, people believed in the geocentric model of the solar system, which claimed that earth was the center of the universe, where all the celestial bodies revolved around it. By using the microscope and discovering Jupiter's natural satellites, Galileo put geocentric systems to the test. This is because he showed that the earth was not the only planet that had celestial bodies rotating around it, other planets had this capacity, like Jupiter. Today we know that Galileo is correct, but his ideas were not well received at the time.

In relation to astronomy, the science of Galileo's time was based on the Aristotelian model, which stated that the celestial bodies were smooth and had a perfect, polished surface with no irregularities. Galileo also put this concept to the test, when he was able to visualize the surface of the moon with his telescope. He saw that the moon did not have a smooth surface, but a rough one, full of irregularities, mountains and caves just like the earth. Today we know that this is true, but one more this idea was not well received by the fellow citizens of Galileo, which caused his life imprisonment for heresy.

We can see that Galileo did not receive a correct judgment from the society in which he lived and suffered for it, even though he was not doing any harm to anyone.
