To solve this problem you must apply a theorem called: Intersecting secant theorem. The proccedure is shown below:

 1) For the figure shown on the left:

 (5)(x+5)=(6)(4+6)
 5x+25=60
 5x=60-25
 x=35/5
 x=7

2) For the figure shown on the right:

 (3)(3+5)=(4)(x+4)
 24=4x+16
 24-16=4x
 8=4x
 8/4=x
 x=2

Greeley [361]

The height is modelled by the equation:

h(t)=-0.2t^2+2t

Therefore

\begin{gathered} \text{ } \\ \frac{\text{ dh}}{\text{  dt}}=-0.4t+2 \end{gathered}

At the maximum height dh/dt = 0:

Hence,

\begin{gathered} -0.4t+2=0 \\ -0.4t=-2 \\ \text{ Dividing both sides by -0.4} \end{gathered}\begin{gathered} \frac{-0.4t}{-0.4}=\frac{-2}{-0.4} \\ t=5 \end{gathered}

Hence, the ball gets to the maximum height after 5s.

The maximum height is given by h(5):

h(5)=-0.2(5)^2+2(5)=5

Therefore, the maximum height is 5 ft.

When the ball reaches the ground h(t) = 0:

\begin{gathered} -0.2t^2+2t=0 \\ \text{ Dividing both sides by -0.2, we have:} \\ t^2-10t=0 \\ Factorising\text{ the left hand side, we have} \\ t(t-10)=0 \\ \text{ Therefore,} \\ t=0,\text{ t=10} \end{gathered}

The ball reaches the ground in 10s

a father is 27 years older than his son. ten years ago he was twice as old as his son. how old is the father
BlackZzzverrR [31]

Answer:

thus the father is 64 years and son is 37years

Step-by-step explanation:

Let father be X and son be y

X=27+Y...........(I)

X-10=2(Y-10)

putting the value of X from eqn(I)

27+Y-10=2Y-20

Y+17=2Y-20

17+20=2Y-Y

37=y

X=27+Y

X=64

What is the range of the function shown?
ludmilkaskok [199]

Answer:

C) [-4,0)

Step-by-step explanation:

Look at the endpoints. You have (-3,0) which isn't included in the function and you have (1,-4) which is included in the function.

We use interval notation when we are describing the subset of numbers in a function by using parentheses to show an endpoint is not included and brackets to show an endpoint is included.

In this case, since we are being asked to find the range of the function, that only pertains to y-coordinates.

Given that (1,-4) is included in the function, this means that y=-4 is included in the function. Therefore the answer's interval notation will start with a bracket to show it's included.

Given that (-3,0) isn't included in the function, this means that y=0 isn't included in the function. Therefore the answer's interval notation will end with a parenthesis to show it's not included.

Combining the two elements, we have an interval notation of [-4,0) which means C is the correct answer
