The emergence of archives The scientific and cultural legacy After the abolition of slavery, the descendants of slaves continue to suffer discrimination despite legally enjoying the same rights as the rest of the population. Â In the United States, apartheid lasted until the 1960s. In Latin America, the definite concept that the clearer the skin was, the higher the social status is closely linked to the legacy of slavery. Another slave-like psychological legacy was the contempt for work. Both masters and ex-slaves tend to mark the superiority of their social status by not performing the same activities, which is to work. There are countries and regions in America that witnessed more economic growth during the twentieth century and are just the places that had received huge waves of immigration after the abolition of slavery.</span>
