Answer: PCR (polymerase chain reaction) analysis

Explanation:

PCR is a common technique used in research labs to make millions of copies of a particular region of DNA. It allows to generate thousands/millions of copies of that particular section of DNA using just a small amount of it, which could be found at a crime scene. In this way, it detects the presence or absence of a specific gene to help identify samples of DNA. So this technology can identify any one person from of others.

PCR requires many enzymes and molecules, but an important enzyme is called Taq polymerase, which adds bases in the new DNA molecule formed during PCR.

Lastly, to check whether the PCR successfully generated a DNA region, an agarose gel electrophoresis is employed for size separation of the PCR products. The sample found at the crime scene is compared to that of a suspect to see if they match or not.

All the following rely on ATP as a source of energy except
JulsSmile [24]

Answer:

b. diffusion and osmosis across semi-permeable membranes

Explanation:

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is a high energy carrying molecule in the system of living organisms. It posseses the ability to store and release energy for use by organisms during biochemical activities. However, some processes do not require ATP to occur and are called PASSIVE TRANSPORT while those that require energy (ATP) are called ACTIVE TRANSPORT.

In the above options, the processes listed as follows require ATP to occur:

- The active transport of glucose from the small intestine to the blood

- The movement of the flagella of sperm for motility

- Exocytosis of waste substances across a semi-permeable membrane

However, the diffusion and osmosis across semi-permeable membranes, which is a passive transport does not require ATP.

If a biologist is measuring diversity by calculating the proportion of individuals of each species, he or she is actually calculating the species evenness of species in the community.

What is species evenness?

  • When there is an environmental gradient in the study region, systematic sampling is performed.
  • To take systematic samples along the environmental gradient, a transect is utilized.
  • A population is a collection of creatures belonging to the same species that coexist in a certain location.
  • Within a given area, more than one population may exist.
  • It's possible for populations of Saguaro cacti, Cactus Wrens, and Bark Scorpions to coexist in the same places.
  • A population is a collection of people belonging to the same species who are present in the same location at the same time.
  • All of the people in all of the interacting populations in a given area make up a community.

Answer:

Fossils. You would look for fossils remains, as an evidence, that of plants or animals you would expect to find at you location, and those that are out of place.

In India, because is situated near equator, we could expect to find tropical flora fossils, not polar flora fossils in its rock. The polar fossils support the theory that India was formed near the south pole.
