Carpetbaggers-Offensive term applied by southerners to northerners who moved to the south during reconstruction. Former confederates despised these northerners. Varied group including union veterans who served in the south, reformers eager to help former slaves and others looking for business opportunity. Named because they carried all their belongings in cheap suitcases called carpetbags.
Scalawags- <span>Offensive term applied to southern whites who joined the republican party during reconstruction. Applied also to farmers who had not supported the confederacy and who believed that an alliance with republicans was the best way to attract northern capital.

When Jesus ascended the disciples went to Jerusalem and prayed for ten days as Jesus had commanded. During this event the Holy Spirit came to visit the disciples and made them speak in different tongues. This outpouring of the power of the Holy Spirit is known as the Pentecost.
