The Black Death, the plague spread in Europe in the middle of the 14th century, created a crisis in the beliefs of the people in Europe. The Church was considered to be important in daily life for European Christians. When the plague struck in Europe in 1347, people saw it as a gods punishment, turned to their Church for help. The Church tried to cope with the plague, but its reputation suffered as a result when millions of people died.
