For a study on a new cold medicine, a group of 100 participants with cold symptoms was studied for one month in the spring. One-

fifth of the participants were given the cold medicine, and the rest of the participants were given a placebo, a pill that has no active ingredients. Of the participants that were given the medicine, 70% felt improvement of their symptoms. Of the participants that were given the placebo, 80% felt improvement of their symptoms. What is the probability of randomly choosing a participant who took the placebo, given they did not feel improvement?

One fifth given medicine= 20 people
Placebo therefore= 80 people

Of the ones given medicine 70% (14 people) felt inprovement/ 30% did not (6 people)

Of the placebo group 80% felt improvement (64 people)/ 20% did not (16 people).

You are given that the person chosen felt no improvement so 6+16=22.
Of the 22 the chance of choosing someone from the placebo group is 16...
16/22= 8/11

The sum of two numbers is 108. the difference of the same numbers is 78. what are the numbers
Nimfa-mama [501]

The sum of two numbers:

x + y = 108

The difference of the same two numbers:

x - y = 78

We can use substitution to figure out x and y:

x - y = 78 can be changed to x = 78 + y

We can plug this into the first equation:

78 + y + y = 108

78 + 2y = 108

2y = 30

y = 15

Now solve for x using any of the two equations. I'll use the first equation since it's easier:

x + 15 = 108

x = 93

At the grocery store last week, SuperSugarSweet candy bars were priced at 4 bars for 5$. This week, they are on sale at 5 bars f
AURORKA [14]

The percent change would be 36%

What is percent change?

Percent increase and percent decrease are measures of percent change, which is the extent to which a variable gains or loses intensity, magnitude, extent, or value.

Given:

4 candy bars = 5$

1 candy bar = 5/4

1 candy bar = 1.25$

Now,

5 candy bars = 4$

1 candy bar =4/5

1 candy bar = 0.8$

% change = (0.8-1.25) / 1.25 *100

                  = 36%

Find two complex numbers that have a sum of i10 a different of -4and a product of -29
lianna [129]

-2+5i and 2+5i

Step-by-step explanation:

   Let the complex numbers be a+ib\textrm{ and }c+id.

Given, sum is 10i, difference is -4 and product is -29.

(a+c)+i(b+d)=10i ⇒ a+c=0,b+d=10

(a-c)+i(b-d)=-4 ⇒ a-c=-4,b-d=0

a=-2,c=2,b=5,d=5

(a+ib)(c+id)=(-2+5i)(2+5i)=-4-25=-29

Hence, all three equations are consistent yielding the complex numbers -2+5i\textrm{ and }2+5i.
