They knew that people were going to change, and that the Constitution had to change with them. In order to be a working document, it had to be changed to reflect what was going on. At the same time they wanted changes to be taken seriously so they made it difficult to change things.
Factors leading to World War II included the Great Depression, rise of Authoritarian governments, aggression by Germany, Italy and Japan and the German invasion of Poland. The one that did not lead to WWII was the strength of the League of Nations!

The farmers felt the railroads had monopoly power over them. The farmers essentially had no choice but to send their crops to market on trains. There was not much, if any, competition on most short-line tracks that went through farm areas. Therefore, most farmers had to simply accept whatever price railroads charged to transport crops. Farmers felt the railroads could gouge them by charging high prices and that they, the farmers, had no recourse when this happened. They blamed much of their trouble on this monopoly power.
