Considering chapter 4 of "Great Gatsby," what is meant by Nick's comment below... Nick's comment: "Then it had not been merely t
marshall27 [118]

Answer:

The first sentence refers to Daisy: the sole and intense purpose of Gatsby's existence. She represents that thing "beyond the stars" that Gatsby aspires to. His entire adult life has been devoted to becoming the kind of man he thought would be worthy for Daisy to marry. Daisy's family was wealthy and socially respectable; Gatsby came from nothing. Their youthful love affair ended in tragedy because Daisy felt she couldn't marry someone with no money or social standing. In becoming wealthy and socially viable, Gatsby also became decadent. The "purposeless splendor" of his lifestyle is revealed to be far deeper and more significant, as Nick realizes Gatsby's singular purpose is to win back Daisy. In Nick's eyes, this makes Gatsby even more impressive and admirable, because Gatsby represents chivalry and romance in a decadent modern age.

larisa [96]

Answer:

A crabby old lady ordered a sumptuous coffee at the coffee shop. The waiter tried to provide her with excellent service, but every time he brought her a coffee, she complained.

First she thought that the coffee was too cold when it was hot. Then she said that the coffee was tasteless, when it was delicious and scrumptious. Then she complained that one of his black hairs was in her cup, but the hair was actually blonde like her own. He remained patient and continued to try to help her until the end of the snacks, when she left him a quarter for a tip. The waiter replied on her way out, “Thank you for the generous tip, Madam."

How you can encourage your friends to give more improtance to knowledge than marks?
Nesterboy [21]
I would always advise my friend that it is necessary to study all subjects in depth and perform well in the examinations to enable him to carry out higher studies in order to have a stable working career. But, at the same time, I'd advise him that merely obtaining good marks is not the barometer of gaining knowledge. Attaining knowledge on diverse things is most important for a human person.
My advice to my friend would be acquiring knowledge by reading books on diverse subjects, learning about various matters by watching television channels like National Geographic, History Channel, Travel & Living and so on. But, first of all, he should know most things about his own country. With the advent of the internet and satellite television, gathering knowledge has become easy; he should make use of these facilities.
Even for passing examinations, he must read and understand the various subjects and topics rather than learn by rote, simply memorising without understanding is not good.
