The U.S did not want the Europeans to interfere/colonize our land
Douglas argued that slavery was a dying institution that had reached its natural limits and could not thrive where climate and soil were inhospitable. He asserted that the problem of slavery could best be resolved if it were treated as essentially a local problem
So that not one person is given so much power they can attack the rights of citizens.
The theme would be French culture, and more specifically, Parisian culture from 100 years ago. In culture, the historian would include not only music, but also paiting, theater, cinema, and so on.
