Summarizing entails, on the other hand and in rough terms, too, condensing the main ideas or key details of any form of discourse.

When paraphrasing, we rephrase the text using our own words, but without altering its meaning. When summarizing, we also must keep the original idea, but we only highlight the key elements in a compact statement.

While summarizing means shortening, paraphrasing could result in a text even longer than the original one.
