It means that it's not directly bordering the vast majority of other States, all of which are bordering each other.

Right now it's Hawaii (which is composed of Islands) and Alaska (separated from the contiguous US by Canada) - all the other states are in the contiguous US.

The "contiguous" part is everything you can reach without leaving
the country.  That part is the big glob of 48 states in the middle of
the continent of North America.  You can drive to anywhere in these
48 states without ever leaving the US for a minute.

The other two states are non-contiguous ... they don't touch any part
of the 48 states, and you have to LEAVE the 48 states to reach either
of them.  Those two are Alaska and Hawaii.

To reach Alaska, you have to cross either a part of the Pacific Ocean
or a part of Canada, by ship, car, or airplane.  To reach Hawaii, you
have to cross a big part of the Pacific Ocean, by either ship or plane.

You suspect that a rock you have found is sedimentary rock. what features would you look for to confirm your identification?
Lerok [7]
Look for grains cemented together, they can usually be rubbed off easily. It's easily friable and layered due to deposition. It's earthy so it'd be pretty dull and have no crystals whatsoever. etc.

In relation to the structure and size of the sun how are the following achieved absorption , reflection, transmission, scattering
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

Explanation:

Scattering of solar radiation within the atmosphere also accounts for a reduction of energy reaching Earth. Atmospheric gas molecules and aerosols deflect solar radiation from its original path, scattering (reflecting) some radiation back into deep space and some toward Earth's surface.

Once the sun's energy reaches earth, it is intercepted first by the atmosphere. A small part of the sun's energy is directly absorbed, particularly by certain gases such as ozone and water vapor. Some of the sun's energy is reflected back to space by clouds and the earth's surface.

A Quick Overview of Light Absorption

In absorption, the frequency of the incoming light wave is at or near the energy levels of the electrons in the matter. The electrons will absorb the energy of the light wave and change their energy state.
