The possible result of the founder effect would be loss of genetic variation. The reason why this is so is because by definition, the founder effect is often considered to be the cause for a essened genetic variation in a specie or a certain area where organisms thrive.

What does it mean for an enzyme to be denatured
wolverine [178]

Answer:

To lose its function

Explanation:

Denaturation of macromolecules such as  proteinc or nucleic acid, means that they lose their quaternary structure, tertiary structure, and secondary structure under the influence of a certain factor. The factors that can lead to denaturation are external stress, strong acid or base, a concentrated inorganic salt,  radiation or heat. The consequence of denaturation is loss of biological activity for example, loss of the catalytic ability of an enzyme.

Which of the following statements correctly describes any chemical reaction that has reached equilibrium?
Vesnalui [34]

Answer:

Option (d).

Explanation:

Equilibrium may be defined as the state of  the equality on both the sides of the reaction. Different types of equilibrium are physical equilibrium, chemical equilibrium and dynamic equilibrium.

Chemical equilibrium may be defined as the equilibrium in which the reactants and products concentration remains constant with time. The rate of the backward reaction is equal to the rate of forward reaction.

Thus, the correct answer is option (d).

A new mutation arises in one person on the island of Kiribati (human population size 100,000). Assuming this particular mutation
tatuchka [14]

Answer:

0.999999 ≈ 1

Explanation:

In a population ( N ) there is the presence of 2N alleles in the population also chance of fixation can be expressed as ; 1/ 2N

Therefore the probability that the mutation will be lost due to genetic drift

= 2N - 1 / 2N ---- ( 1 )

given that ; N = 100,000

back to equation 1

P ( losing mutation due to genetic drift ) = ((2*100,000) - 1 )) / ( 2* 100,000 )

= ( 200,000 - 1 ) / 200,000

= 0.999999 ≈ 1
