The type of bond that keeps each individual DNA strand together is HYDROGEN BOND. 
The hydrogen bond between the two DNA strands is made up of a base from one strand which complementarly pair with another base from the second strand. The hydrogen bond formed in this way keep the two strands of DNA together.
