The excerpt supports the idea that the newspaper stories Glaspell wrote about Margaret Hossack were inconsistent and opinion-based.
We can see in the excerpt that Glaspell couldn't make up her mind about what she wanted to write about Hossack - thus she used many paradoxical descriptions such as a maternal woman full of love for her family and those that said she was emotionless.
