Endoscope producing bacteria are ideal candidates as bioterrorism agents since they can survive harshest environments and can survive in an environment for long periods (even centuries). For a terrorist, these are good characteristics since it will be hard to eradicate the bacteria. However, the same characteristics make the bacteria undesirable in hospital settings since endospores are hard to kill even using ultraviolet radiation, extreme heat and disinfectants
