Farmers could ship things easier without spoilage.

Explanation:

Farmers could easily ship their grain to other parts of the country through railroad, it also became  cheaper to transport crops to the cities and ports.  Farmers could also  buy and transport industrial goods back to farms, including farm equipment and cattle. More sensitive crops which rotted faster could now also be transported faster so that it remained fresh, and farmers got a larger profit from them.
