La invasión soviética de Polonia fue una operación militar iniciada el 17 de septiembre de 1939, en los primeros compases de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, dieciséis días después de la invasión de Polonia por parte de la Alemania nazi. Supuso una importante victoria para el Ejército Rojo de la Unión Soviética.

A principios de 1939, la Unión Soviética intentaba formar una alianza con el Reino Unido, Francia, Polonia y Rumanía para hacer frente a la Alemania nazi pero se presentaron varias dificultades, como la negativa de Polonia y Rumanía a permitir el tránsito de tropas soviéticas a través de sus territorios por seguridad colectiva.6​ Ante la ausencia de avance en las negociaciones, los soviéticos cambiaron su estrategia y firmaron el 23 de agosto de 1939 el Pacto Ribbentrop-Mólotov con la Alemania nazi.

En consecuencia, el 1 de septiembre los alemanes invadieron el oeste polaco mientras que los soviéticos invadieron la zona oriental el 17 de septiembre.7​ El gobierno soviético anunció que actuaba para proteger a los ucranianos y bielorrusos que vivían en la parte oriental de Polonia, debido al colapso de la administración polaca tras la invasión nazi.
