A square root is the little 2 at the top of a number so when you square a number it means you are multiplying how many is squared of that same number. And a perfect square is when you have a certain square that is given with how much their is in that square and then you use a radicand for that number equals how many that was square rooted so lets say the given square is 81 then ur perfect square would be 9^2.

Hope this helped!!

Solve -x^2 + 4x +10 = 0 by using the "Solving the square method"
Pavel [41]

Answer:

x =  - 2 +  \sqrt{14}  \:  \: or  \:  \: x =  - 2 -  \sqrt{14}

Step-by-step explanation:

{x}^{2}  - 4x - 10 = 0 \\  {x}^{2}  - 4x = 10 \\  {x}^{2}  - 2(2x) = 10 \\  {x }^{2}  - 2(2x) + 4 = 10 + 4 \\ {(x + 2)}^{2}  = 14 \\ x + 2 =  \sqrt{14}  \:  \:  \:  \: or \:  \:  \: x + 2 =  -  \sqrt{14}
