In 1997, the year the Kyoto Protocol was endorsed by more than 120 countries, the top carbon dioxide emitters included Persian G
ulf states such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Among the top 10 emitters, which country ranked seventh? A. Saudi Arabia
B. Kuwait
C. United States
D. Bahrain
The United States were ranked at seventh place as one of the biggest carbon dioxide emitters in the world in 1997. The Kyoto Protocol was with the purpose of making the countries work together to preserve the environment and lower the carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. While some countries invested a lot in this, like Japan, Germany, Netherlands etc., others continued the same way and even have bigger emissions of carbon dioxide nowadays with the excuse that if they lower it it will make their economies weaker because it requires lot of investing and readjustments, the countries that don't keep to the this protocol are the USA, China, the Gulf states etc.
