This is an example of degradation ceremony.
The group has gathered to decide what they want to do with the individual. They decide that he or she is not worthy of being a member anymore, which means that they are degrading his rank within the group (or in this case, expelling him or her).
The term was coined by sociologist Harold Garfinkel in 1956 in his essay <span>"Conditions of Successful Degradation Ceremonies."</span>
Material possessions can create a sense of comfort because when an individual wants something and he or she was able to obtain the thing that he or she always wanted, it has provided him or her comfort as he or she was able to have the thing that she or he truly wanted that he or she feels that he or she is complete. It also create a sense of anxiety because if the person wasn't able to get what he or she wants, he or she will keep on thinking of that particular thing that could cause him or her to worry in which could affect both his or her feelings and behavior.
Desaparecidos. The term <span>Desaparecidos refers to the thousands who disappeared during the La Guerra Sucia. People numbering to the thousands were either forcibly picked up, tortured killed and many missing/disappeared with no traces during this dark times in Latin countries.</span>
