The artist known for this type of style is Tintoretto. 
He was an Italian artist who lived during the period of Renaissance, in the 16th century. His style, which includes dramatic compositions often filled with swirling clouds and dim lighting, was what gave him the nickname Il Furioso, meaning The Furious One, because it seemed rather aggressive. Here is an example of his painting, The Last Supper.
