Why didn't the federal local governments collect an excise tax on alcohol during prohibition
astraxan [27]

For decades prior to the Prohibition (i.e., the legal ban of alcoholic drinks) made possible by the Eighteen Amendment, different Christian churches and organizations had been objecting to the consumption of alcohol since they considered it as the source of most debauchery and moral decadence. Their goal was made clear to the federal government: alcohol should be completely banned in order to clean society up. An excise tax on alcohol would have been rejected by all the moralistic groups advocating for prohibition as a mild and ineffective measure

What contributes did christine ladd franklin make to psychology
Akimi4 [234]

Ladd-Franklin's mathematical interests ultimately led her to make important contributions to the field of psychology. In 1886, she became interested in the geometrical relationship between binocular vision and points in space and published a paper on this topic in the first volume of the American Journal of Psychology the following year. During the 1891-92 academic year, Ladd-Franklin took advantage of her husband's sabbatical leave from Johns Hopkins and traveled to Europe to conduct research in color vision in the laboratories of George Müller (1850-1934) in Göttingen, and Herman von Helmholtz (1821-1894) in Berlin, where she also attended lectures by Arthur König. In contrast to the prevailing three-color and opponent-color explanations of color vision, Ladd-Franklin developed an evolutionary theory that posited three stages in the development of color vision. Presenting her work at the International Congress of Psychology in London in 1892, she argued that black-white vision was the most primitive stage, since it occurs under the greatest variety of conditions, including under very low illumination and at the extreme edges of the visual field. The color white, she theorized, later became differentiated into blue and yellow, with yellow ultimately differentiated into red-green vision. Ladd-Franklin's theory was well-received and remained influential for some years, and its emphasis on evolution is still valid today.

Which issue was addressed in the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850?
kupik [55]

Answer:

A. balance of free states and slave states

Explanation:

The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was very important for various reasons. The compromise itself resolved, for the time being, the dispute over where slavery should and could exist in recently acquired Louisiana territory. He urged that slavery did not exist above the 36 ° 30 'longitude. The exception was Missouri, which entered the Union in 1820 as a slave state under compromise.

In addition to Missouri, Maine also entered the Union as a free state (formerly part of Massachusetts) to balance the number of free and slave states in the nation. This seeks to achieve equality of slaves and free states, along with a balance in Congress.

The Compromise of 1850 was a set of laws passed in Congress that sought to address the issue of slavery, which soon divided the nation.

The legislation was highly controversial and passed only after a long series of battles on Capitol Hill. It was destined to be unpopular, as almost every part of the nation found something that disliked its provisions.

Yet the 1850 compromise served its purpose.  It kept the Union apart for a while, and essentially delayed the outbreak of the Civil War for a decade.
