Social loafing refers to giving less effort when someone is in a group , less than they would give when they were doing the task individually. This would be worse of the students feel like the task is too simple because they would just relax and feel like everyone else can take care of it without their input into that task. These group learning activities may be useful if the task is complex and when it may require different kind of minds to deal with it. This may make everyone feel that their input will make a huge difference when dealing with a complex task.
