The capital city of China at the time of the Japanese invasion in 1937 was C) Nanjing. During World War II, the invasion of the Empire of Japan to the Republic of China was known as the Second Sino- Japanese War. In December 1937, the Japanese captured the city of Nanjing, which was the current capital city of the Republic of China. This battle came to be known as the Nanjing Massacre due to the fact that almost 300,000 Chinese perished at the hands of the Japanese forces.
